Summer 2011 SOCCER CAMP/LEAGUE FOR 7-10 YEAR OLD GIRLS IN SIMSBURY, CT.

Summer 2011 SOCCER CAMP/LEAGUE FOR 7-10 YEAR OLD GIRLS IN SIMSBURY, CT.

Hi, my name is Christian Alarie, and I have two homeschooled daughters. Last summer I put on a free soccer camp in Simsbury, CT for girls 7-10 years old. We had 24 children sign up to learn the fundamentals of the sport improve their existing skills, have fun and make friends. The children seemed to enjoy themselves and improved their understanding of the game. Since there was interest in conducting another camp this summer, I am putting one together (also free) as detailed below.

Before I get into the particulars of the camp, let me mention a few things. It doesn’t matter if your child has played the sport before. The last two sessions some of the kids were new to soccer or had not previously played it in a structured manner and they’ve done very well. Also, let me quickly tell you a little bit about myself. I’m a Christian dad of four who played soccer for a number of years and remembers that the most important things are that the children have fun and learn how to play the sport. Also, I have been coaching my daughters soccer team for the last 3 seasons.

The details for the soccer camp are as follows:

  • The dates for the camp are July 8th, 22nd  & 29th, August 5th, 12th & 19th (6 weeks- All Fridays)
  • We will play at the soccer field at the Squadron Line School in Simsbury, CT from 9:30-11:30 am (we sometimes go over a little bit)
  • The camp is free- everyone likes that word
    • The only financial issues to consider are:
1.      Every child must have their own soccer ball, if one hasn’t already been purchased, a size 4 ball would be best, since we will be using that size for the scrimmages/games
2.      It is not a requirement to have cleats or shin guards, but many  children choose to wear them
·        The first two weeks will be spent on exercising, going over the rules of the sport, making friends, running drills that help develop or build upon existing skills and scrimmaging. If enough children participate in the camp, we will split up into teams and play official games during the last 4 weeks. During those weeks we will still continue to exercise and run drills as a group.  If we develop a league every child will be assigned to a team with their own color coded team jersey (at no cost to the parent) and coach. Another coach is already signed up to assist with the camp (he has two children that will be playing and a strong background in playing soccer). All of the children are kind and caring towards each other and no one is left out of anything.
  • Last year we made some age exceptions for participants and I would be willing to do so this year-lets just discuss it first
  • Refreshments should be brought by the parents (Please bring extra water)
  • All children should come dressed appropriately- Very hot days will be spent between low key drills and sitting in the shade discussing soccer - DON’T FORGET SUNSCREEN
  • Rain days are at the discretion of the parents- Soccer will be played rain or shine (Not in a thunderstorm)
  • The children must come with two attitudes 1) to have fun and 2) want to learn to play or improve their existing skills
  • I will bring the necessary equipment for practice and games (balls are the responsibility of each player to bring to practice)
  • We will be playing on a regular size field for the children’s age
  • Each parent will need to fill out a basic release form for their child to participate in the camp
  • We will be exercising before every practice, and doing some running. Please make your child aware of this- accommodations can be made for those who need them

Please let me know as soon as possible of your child's intent to participate in the camp, so I can put them on the list right away. If there is a big sign up this year we may have to limit the participation so early acknowledgement is appreciated. I will consider participant sign up finalized by June 21st.

Thank you and God Bless,

Christian Alarie
