Homeschool Week at Camp Calumet

Homeschool Week at Camp Calumet on the shores of Lake Ossipee in New Hampshire will be a wonderful way to end your school year and simultaneously kick off your summer fun! www.calumet.org

This message is from Jean Barresi from CtHomeschoolersInclusive:

This is a really wonderful camp that my family has been going to for many years…my husband grew up going to camp at Calumet and it is near and dear to our hearts…we are grateful that Calumet has carved out a week for us to come and enjoy the White Mountains of New Hampshire together!
Last summer was the very first Homeschool Week at Calumet and it was a huge success, the prices are reasonable, the food (should you choose to partake) is delicious and plentiful, Lake Ossipee is beautiful and the camp staff are welcoming and helpful!
Here’s a link to the photo album I created last year so you can get a sampling of what our week was like…http://campcalumet.shutterfly.com/
Some families chose to use the camp as home base to explore the White Mountains, others used the camp as a retreat, staying on camp and enjoying the many offerings…swimming, tennis, basketball, crafts, hiking, archery, kayaking, canoeing, campfires on the beach, game nights, beading with Bonnie, basket weaving, gimp ….
Some families came for the whole week, others came only for a few days….they’ve given us a daily rate so that you can customize your stay to fit your schedule.
Some families ‘roughed it’ in the campground, cooking their own meals, others enjoyed the luxury of eating in the dining hall. Whatever floats your boat!

·         The week of June 21 – 25, 2010   ***(campsites will be available through 6/27 as well, but cabins and conference center are only available M-F)***
·         Calumet will reserve the following facilities for homeschoolers to be housed in
·         12 Cabins know as GC1 – 12.  (Each cabin sleeps 10 on camp style bunks, most have 4 sets of bunk beds and 2 individual beds.)
·         Some of the rooms are in the Conference Center.  (sleep 2, 3 and a few sleep 4 with a rollaway (in single beds).  If a family has four children and want the Conference Center the cost will be the same but they will be in more than one room. The conference center has 2 lounges with TV, books, puzzles etc,  a game room and a large dining room where we’ll have our meals. There’s a beautiful porch and a deck for relaxing on as well. Free Wi-Fi also.
·         Campsites in the campground
·         Food service will be available at the Conference Center during the week.
·         We’ll establish a community space for the homeschooler group, to be used as a place to gather together with others in the group and a place to share resources like brochures and flyers from local attractions
·         Calumet’s recreational facilities will be fully available to the homeschoolers group – sports fields and equipment, swimming area, boats, hiking trails.
·         We’ll have a staff contact that will work with the group to coordinate activities that call for higher amount of support from Calumet staff.  Things such as getting a boat driver for a pontoon boat ride, staff to lead group through “Rob World” low ropes course, support for some craft activities, lifeguarding for waterfront activities, or leading an evening campfire program.

Costs:
·         We are pleased to offer the same 2009 rates for homeschoolers in 2010
·         Campsite Rates
o   $15 per night site rate (pre-season rates)
o   $82 per family per day for meals. (1st meal supper, then breakfast and lunch next day) The meal plan is optional.

227 South Main St.,
West Hartford, Ct.

Town Meeting Class:  What issues led to the American Revolution? At a 1774 town meeting, Hartford colonists voted to stop trade with England in response to policies that they thought were unfair. Role-playing Patriots versus Loyalists, the students move through our historic house while discussing the issues of the day with our costumed museum teachers. Then they have a chance to vote during their own 1774 town meeting. Use of pre-visit materials required.  Also, Meet Mr. Webster:  Why is Noah Webster so important? Let him tell you - in his own words! Students have a dialogue with Noah when our brand new costumed character shares his accomplishments and fields students' questions about his life.  Visit www.noahwebsterhouse.org for more information. $11/student (price reduction if more than 21 students sign up).  Grades 3-8 recommended.  Pre-visit materials available.  RSVP to Kim Cashman at 860-875-0799 or kcashman3@snet.net by April 1st.

Welcome!

Welcome to the H.O.P.E. Bulletin Board! This blog will serve as a vehicle to post homeschool field trips and programs that homeschoolers have set up to share with other homeschoolers in the North Central Connecticut area and surrounding towns. Originally I sent all notices of field trips through my Homeschool Email Network. My address book has gotten so big that I have decided to move it over to this blog. To receive emails every time I post on this blog please click on "Email Subscription". If you would like to share a field trip that you have set up, please email me at kristi77swe@cox.net with all the info so I can post it on this blog.
