UplifT Sports is offering flag football for Boys Ages 7-12
Passing this along from Adam Recla ajr2@sbcglobal.net, please email him if you are interested
UplifT Sports is offering flag football for Boys Ages 7-12 and will run from September 15 to November 10 on Saturdays from 10AM to Noon at Pierce Park in East Windsor. UplifT Sports is a ministry of Windsor Locks Congregational Church EFCA that seeks to build faith and character by investing in youth athletes. We’ll have a lot of fun. Our typical session includes time for individual & team drills, and then a game. Boys will learn all the fundamentals of football for positions like quarterback, running back, wide receiver, linebacker and defensive back. In my life, I have seen God teach me many lessons of faith when playing sports. Athletic competition and practice provided me with a proving ground for applying God’s word in areas like teamwork, integrity, God-reliance, respect for others, trust, keeping hope, and giving encouragement. There is an element of training hard and competing that helps us see our need for God. In getting feedback from a coach and striving for excellence on the field, athletes learn to give their best for the Lord and their teammates. When athletes see their faith in action, they can translate this trust in God toward much more important areas of life. God blessed me with a High School football career that lead to being named All-Jersey Shore and recruited by Division 1 programs. Now, God has really blessed me with the chance to share my experience through coaching. The cost of the program is $27 to cover the cost of a football jersey that you will keep. All you need to bring is water to stay hydrated, and I recommend wearing cleats. To register or for questions email me at ajr2@sbcglobal.net God Bless You, Adam Recla |

NOAH WEBSTER HOUSE - Field Trips for Homeschoolers
Passing this along from Diane Connors drmomoften@hotmail.com
This event is "rain or shine" as it's indoors. It's also a "drop off" event, except for chaperones. My older kids have attended these events and they are very good quality, and were well received by everyone.
Thursday, September 20th, from 1 - 3 PM
NOAH WEBSTER: LANGUAGE, LITERACY & LEGACY
How does Noah’s legacy continue to affect us today? This interdisciplinary program combines language arts and history to look at how Noah Webster contributed to American language and the way we learn. Students explore how language has changed over time through group activities, discover Noah’s contributions to American education in a 19th-century schoolhouse, visit our exhibit Noah Webster: Defining American Life, and investigate historical objects in Noah’s childhood home. No pre-visit materials required.
Grades 5-8. Program length: 2 hours Fee: $8/student
2 hours, 1 chaperone per 10 students, 15 students minimum (max 50)
Thursday, September 27th, from 1:30 - 3 PM
the TOWN MEETING event
What issues led to the American Revolution? At a 1774 town meeting, Hartford colonists voted to stop trade with England in response to taxes and political policies that they thought were unfair. *Role-playing* Patriots versus Loyalists, students move through our historic house while discussing the issues of the day with our costumed museum teachers. Then they have a chance to vote during their own 1774 town meeting. Use of our pre-visit materials is required for role-playing prep. (will be sent to registrants)
1-1/2 hours, Grades 5 - 8, $9 per student, 1 chaperone per 10 students
15 students minimum (max 50)
REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS AUGUST 31st, 2012 & it is a commitment for both events, not a single event. Payments & REGISTRATION FORM must be received by that date; no late registrations. If the event is full prior to that (likely), a notice will be posted, "full". Your child's space will be confirmed via email after your check has cleared.
Parking
The museum has limited on-site parking, but street parking is available on South Main Street and Crestwood Rd.
