Lego Build and Field Day info

Passing this along from Jen Fahey.....

Hi everyone,

We are scheduled to have a Lego Build at the Scout Hall in East Windsor tomorrow, Wed., April 30 from 3:00 - 4:30.

I would like to add some more activities to our time together tomorrow since it seems that the Lego's are not as exciting as they once were. We will still have Legos out, we will just be adding other things.

So, I am adding the following activities:

indoor volleyball (using 2 lightweight play balls)
plastic cup stacking challenge
easter egg memory match
marshmallow target toss
the card game "war" with all the kids who are interested in playing

These are all optional, but I thought they might be fun. At this point there are no prizes for the winners, just the fun of playing.

ONE MORE THING -

There will be a Field Day on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 3:00 - 4:30 with the option of staying for pizza from 5 - 5:30.

The day will include relay races, a tricycle race, 50 yard dash, water balloon baseball, and more. If you are interested, mark it on your calendar. I will send out another email closer to that date and will post it on a few groups too.

Please feel free to pass this email on to anyone you think may be interested.

Thanks, stay warm?! Will it ever be warm out again?

-Jen

CT Home Educator's Capitol Day

Passing this along.....

Come join homeschoolers from across the state at
CT Home Educator's Capitol Day
Wednesday, March 12th, 2014
10am - 3pm in the Capitol Concourse

Families representing TEACH, CHN, CT-CHEER and NHELD will be on hand to put a positive face on homeschooling by displaying our success and expressing thanks to our legislators for their service.
In addition there will be opportunity to become informed about current political issues and tour the State Capitol. Come meet your state representatives and expand your civics knowledge!
Why Capitol Day?
To provide a presence, a handshake and a word of thanks. We appreciate the homeschooling freedom that we enjoy in CT -- let's keep it that way!
(Leave the axes at home:)
As one senator and homeschooling father put it:

" Our legislators are generally impressed by the decorum of home educators and humbled by their gratitude.
..
They also implicitly understand that if thousands of home educators are willing to show up at the Capitol just to say "Hi" -- then they are a force to be reckoned with -- they are networked -- and they will show up to vote."

Loaves for Legislators

In addition to providing displays and greeting our Legislators, we'd like to reward them with a tangible --  and yummy -- reminder of our visit!
Some states make cookies, others apple pie -- we  like the message of home-baked bread -- whole grain, banana, pumpkin... any kind you are willing to bake! We will need about 100 loaves and 1 or 2 people to coordinate the baking. If you would like to be involved in this aspect of Capitol Day, please contact teachct@teachct.org and let us know!

Displays & Performances

We will have a limited number of tables and easels available on a first come basis to allow support groups to display information about their group or to showcase student's work.
Displays involving Civics or CT history would be especially appropriate.
We would also welcome students willing to perform interpretive readings of historical documents (w/or w/o a costume)
Please contact teachct@teachct.org  or CHN
if you are interested in reserving a table or time slot for your group.

More information will be provided in coming weeks:

*How to set up an appointment or talk with your legislator
*Area maps, parking and security instructions
*Schedule of events, tour information and much more.... Stay tuned!

Meanwhile - mark your calendars for March 12th!
Volunteers are needed to help make this the best Capitol Day ever!

Find your State Representative or Senator HERE, and let them know you're coming -- they would love to meet you!
