NOAH WEBSTER HOUSE - Field Trips for Homeschoolers

Passing this along from Diane Connors  drmomoften@hotmail.com

THE NOAH WEBSTER HOUSE
Field Trips for Homeschoolers
227 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT

This event is "rain or shine" as it's indoors. It's also a "drop off" event, except for chaperones. My older kids have attended these events and they are very good quality, and were well received by everyone.

Thursday, September 20th, from 1 - 3 PM
NOAH WEBSTER: LANGUAGE, LITERACY & LEGACY
How does Noah’s legacy continue to affect us today? This interdisciplinary program combines language arts and history to look at how Noah Webster contributed to American language and the way we learn. Students explore how language has changed over time through group activities, discover Noah’s contributions to American education in a 19th-century schoolhouse, visit our exhibit Noah Webster: Defining American Life, and investigate historical objects in Noah’s childhood home. No pre-visit materials required.
Grades 5-8. Program length: 2 hours Fee: $8/student
2 hours, 1 chaperone per 10 students, 15 students minimum (max 50)

Thursday, September 27th, from 1:30 - 3 PM
the TOWN MEETING event
What issues led to the American Revolution? At a 1774 town meeting, Hartford colonists voted to stop trade with England in response to taxes and political policies that they thought were unfair. *Role-playing* Patriots versus Loyalists, students move through our historic house while discussing the issues of the day with our costumed museum teachers. Then they have a chance to vote during their own 1774 town meeting. Use of our pre-visit materials is required for role-playing prep. (will be sent to registrants)
1-1/2 hours, Grades 5 - 8, $9 per student, 1 chaperone per 10 students
15 students minimum (max 50)

REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS AUGUST 31st, 2012 & it is a commitment for both events, not a single event. Payments & REGISTRATION FORM must be received by that date; no late registrations. If the event is full prior to that (likely), a notice will be posted, "full". Your child's space will be confirmed via email after your check has cleared.

Parking
The museum has limited on-site parking, but street parking is available on South Main Street and Crestwood Rd.

To get to AM Parkour, take route 9 to exit 16. When you get to the light, take a SHARP right onto North Main St. Follow N. Main St. to the end and take a right. Cross the railroad tracks and turn right into the building complex. AM Parkour is located in the first building next to Zen Roasters.
**** Mom's note ****
We have been participating at AM Parkour for over a year now and we love it. Our son David, who is 14, will be there at the Open House all day. The instructor, Scott, is awesome and does a perfect job at blending strong physical discipline, respect for others, and having fun. He is interested in developing something for homeschoolers, so head over to see what parkour is all about!
For those of you not familiar with Parkour, it can be summed up as:
the physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within one's path by adapting one's movements to the environment.

Piano Teacher

Passing this along........
paulette-pic.jpg
My name is Paulette Kunigisky, and I have been a professional pianist and piano teacher since the age of 13. I recently moved to Windsor, CT, and am looking for new piano students. I have a Master's Degree from Hartt School of Music in Music Education, and a Bachelor's Degree in Piano. I have my own website called paulettepiano.com which gives a lot of background information about me, including references. I have performed at the White House and many other places, but above all, love teaching private piano lessons. My phone number is 860-539-1557. My rates are very reasonable, and I teach out of my own home.  I have been invited to teach piano lessons to students at Trinity Methodist Christian School, and have been the pianist for numerous Christian churches in the last 20 years.  In the past, I have found that home schooled children have made excellent students, and their families are very supportive. The students tend to be very well behaved, and practice diligently for the most part.. I also love teaching children to play gospel music, as well as classical, jazz, and other styles of music. I love being able to share the Lord with my students, and speak freely about Jesus. I am a composer, and also have taught many of my students how to compose music. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Paulette
