Homeschool events scheduled
Passing this along from Jen Fahey jen@faheyfam.com, please email her with any questions
With the approach of warmer weather and brighter days, it got me to thinking about organizing some events. So here is what I came up with. Hope you can participate in some/all of them. And please feel free to pass on this information to anyone else you think may be interested.
TUESDAY, APRIL 17, 3-5 p.m., East Windsor Scout Hall
LEGO BUILDING EVENT - Using over 9,000 Lego pieces let's see what we can build together. Come and build. Who knows what it will be - maybe a giant something, a massive metropolis, a whole bunch of small creations put together! At the end we will take a picture of the creation(s) and submit it to Lego. (No need to bring your own Legos.)
SUNDAY, APRIL 29, 2-4 p.m., East Windsor Scout Hall
PARKOUR seminar - Our 13 year old son, David, has finally found his passion and parkour is it. David's instructor, Scott, is excited to lead a seminar here is East Windsor for any child age 9-16 so they can experience it themselves. Parkour is a great physical discipline and I cannot speak highly enough about it. Developed in France as a way to stay in shape using the environment around you and no special equipment, it really challenges each person at their own level and at their own pace. Plus it is a lot of fun. At the bottom of the email I have included a couple of links to videos so you can see it for yourself. Please note there is a fee of $10 for this seminar. For more info and to sign please call Jen Fahey 860-627-6765
Also, there is a Remote Control Day scheduled for May 8th, 3-5 p.m.,
and a Field Day for June 12th, time to be announced.
Here are the Parkour links:
This is what started it all for David. But don't forget, yes, this gym is cool but parkour can be done anywhere. FYI - freerunning and parkour are very similar.
This is a video I put together for a jam David participated in up in Boston. He is wearing a black & white camo sweatshirt (which he basically lived in for the entire winter). A jam is just a bunch of people getting together and doing parkour.
And this last one was featured on ESPN.com. It does a good job showing how people work together to train and that parkour has more to it than just jumping around and doing flips.
